Regional School District 12 recognizes The State of Connecticut Public Act 09-81 that requires on or before July 1, 2011, each local and regional board of education shall implement a Green Cleaning Program for the cleaning and maintenance of school buildings and facilities in its district.
In response to P. A. 09-81 Regional School District 12 has instituted a Green Cleaning Program in all of its facilities to comply. The intent of our Green Cleaning Program is to reduce the exposure by occupants of our facilities to potentially harmful products, equipment or procedures which could adversely affect them, their visitors and the surrounding environment.
Requirements of Public Act 09-81 are as follows:
That annual written notice is provided to all staff, students, parents, and guardians of our Green Cleaning Statement that includes:
1. The types and names of environmentally preferable products being applied in the facilities.
2. The location of the application of such cleaning products.
3. The schedule of when the products are applied.
4. A statement that, “No parent, guardian, teacher or staff member may bring into the school facility any consumer product which is intended to clean, deodorize, sanitize or disinfect.”
5. The name of the school administrator, or a designee, who may be contacted for further information.
Regional School District 12 will be utilizing The Green Origin Program from Afflab. Some additional products are purchased from other sources also. The Green Origin program consists of a number of strategically placed and secured chemical dispensing stations in each facility that provide properly diluted product into ready to use labeled spray bottles, buckets, and/or specialized cleaning equipment. In addition, a number of specialized stand alone cleaning products are stored in each secured dispensing station location.

Regional School District 12 has designated Donald O’Leary, The District Facility Director as the contact person for additional information regarding the Green Cleaning Program.
Regional School District 12 will continue to evaluate its Green Cleaning Program through the use of audits of the products being used, the frequency of use and employees using the products. We will continue to conduct training for our custodial staff so that they become proficient in the safe use of the products and equipment that apply the products. The district will strive to remain cognizant of on-going changes in laws, cleaning techniques and cost effective methods and equipment used in the cleaning of our facilities. We intend to provide all who utilize our facilities with a safe and clean environment in which to conduct their activities.
